Shea Butter

Shea butter is extracted from the kernel of the fruit of the African Shea (Karite) tree. Its creamy texture and emollience makes it a popular lubricating ingredient in many natural skin care products, especially body butters. When applied to the skin, shea butter helps to seal in moisture and provide protection from harmful and drying environmental elements.

Shea is rich in vitamins A, E and F and essential fatty acids that aid in collagen production, offers a natural UV protection of approximately 6, and has anti-inflammatory properties that can aid in wound healing and skin rejuvenation. For these reasons, we believe that shea butter is one of the most nourishing and versatile butters that can be used in skin care.

We love shea butter and it is the one ingredient we use the most in our formulations! It can be found in many of our products such as body butters (see Coconut Lime), lotions, lip butters (see Chapped Lip), lip tints and solid scent sticks, to name just a few. It is gentle enough for babies (see Sweet Tushies Moisture Barrier) and people with sensitive skin (see Calendula Shea Body Butter). A note of warning - because shea butter is technically extracted from a nut, people with severe nut allergies should use with caution.
