FAQ

HOW SOON CAN I EXPECT TO RECEIVE MY ORDER?

All of our products are handmade in small batches, so how soon you receive your order will depend on whether or not all the items in your cart are available for immediate shipping. If they are all available, you can expect to receive your package at the earliest 5 business days after we receive your order (your order will be processed within 48 hours and USPS Priority Mail will take approximately 3 days to deliver). If not all of the items in your cart are available for immediate shipping, you should expect  to add 2 more days to the processing time. If this is a concern, please contact us prior to placing your order.

WHAT INGREDIENTS ARE IN YOUR SOAP BARS?

All of our soaps begin with an all natural base of saponified oils of coconut, palm and safflower, purified water, glycerin (vegetable-based), sorbitol (moisturizer), sorbitan oleate (emulsifier), and oat protein (conditioner). To this base we may add pure essential oils, exotic nut butters, fruit and botanical extracts, earth minerals, clays, pure vegetable oils, natural mineral colorants, and occasionally some quality, phthalate-free fragrance oils. We may even include some good-for-your-skin household ingredients such as oatmeal, honey and sea salt.

ARE YOUR SOAPS GLUTEN FREE?

The ingredients in our soaps are considered naturally gluten-free, and we try our best not to cross contaminate with known gluten containing ingredients as we make our soaps, but we make no claims to being 100% gluten-free. Since soap is a wash-off product, you should be fine unless you are hyper sensitive to gluten - maybe avoid our Goat's Milk & Honey and Cranberry Fig soaps because we do add non gluten-free ground oats to those. If you have any concerns, please contact us prior to placing your order.

HOW CAN I MAKE MY SOAP LAST LONGER?

To prolong the life of your soap bar, do not place directly in shower spray or allow to sit in water. A slotted soap dish with suction cups is good for this purpose. We also suggest not continually scrubbing the soap bar directly against the skin as this will use up the soap more quickly - instead, rub some soap onto your hands or onto a damp nylon washcloth and agitate until a foamy lather appears.

HOW SHOULD I STORE MY SOAP LONG-TERM?

Store in a cool, dry location away from heat vents and direct sunlight. Over time, the scent of the essential oils may fade, and the soap bar may darken slightly in color, especially white-colored sections. This is due to the nature of the all natural ingredients and the lack of artificial preservatives, and does not mean that it has gone "bad" in any way. Each bar is wrapped in clear plastic with an ingredients label on the back. Keep soap bars wrapped until ready to use. It is best to store individual scents separately - maybe scent your lingerie drawer with your favorite! Your soap bar will  also "shrink" slightly over time and the rectangular 4-oz bars may "bow"  a bit as the water content continues to evaporate - this is normal! In anticipation of this process, we cut the bars slightly larger than 4 oz. It is better to buy fresh if your plan to give the soap as a gift. To mitigate the "bowing," do the following for long-term storage: place separate scents in a Ziploc bag (so that the strength of the scents will last longer), turn soap bars upside down and weigh them down with a large, heavy book.

WHY IS MY BODY BUTTER SO HARD?

Every batch of body butter and face butter is hand-whipped to a thick consistency. They are purposely made this way to lessen the chance of them melting in the jar when outside during our summer markets or while being shipped to warmer states. Ambient temperature will determine exactly how hard/soft the butters will be in your home. They will melt almost immediately on skin contact, however - simply scoop out a small amount, melt on fingertips or rub between hands, then smooth into skin. USE CAUTION WHEN FIRST OPENING BODY BUTTERS, LIP BUTTERS ETC... AS THEY MAY HAVE SOFTENED OR MELTED DURING SHIPMENT.

ANY TIPS ON THE BEST USE OF MY BODY BUTTER?

The best way to keep your all natural butters from growing mold is to use a clean spatula to scoop out product and wipe between uses. Do not allow water or fingers to come in contact with the product as doing so may introduce contaminants. These butters will last six months or longer with proper care, and a little bit goes a very long way! It is best to refrigerate for long-term storage.

WHY DOES MY BODY BUTTER FEEL GRAINY?

If your butter ever feels "grainy," this means that it has melted partially and then re-solidified. These "grains" will melt immediately on skin contact. This phenomenon is a natural response of shea butter to temperature fluctuations. Simply use as-is or follow these steps to regain smooth texture: scoop butter into a heat-safe container (like Pyrex), set into a pot of gently boiling water and stir until just melted. (Do not allow product to boil as the scent and therapeutic values of the oils will fade.) Remove from heat, set container in a shallow bowl of cool water and continuously stir or whip until thickened - then refrigerate (refrigeration is recommended during summer months if your home is not air conditioned). For an additional fee, we can package your order with a reuseable ice pack to minimize the possibility of your butters melting during shipment.

WHY IS THERE A POWDERY RESIDUE ON MY BODY BUTTER?

If your body butter arrives with a top layer of powdery residue, this is caused by the shea butter going through temperature fluctuations during shipment. The product is not "bad" in any way. This "powder" is actually very silky to the touch and may be scraped off and used right away. For an additional fee, we can package your order with a reuseable ice pack to minimize this possibility.

WHICH PRODUCTS CAN BE AFFECTED BY HEAT?

Body butters, deodorants and lip butters may soften or melt at extremely high temperatures. Use caution when opening these products immediately on receipt so that they do not spill. Simply stand upright at room temperature or refrigerate to re-solidify. For body butters that have melted do the following: scoop butter into a heat-safe container (like Pyrex), set into a pot of gently boiling water and stir until just melted. (Do not allow product to boil as the scent and therapeutic values of the oils will fade.) Remove from heat, set container in a shallow bowl of cool water and continuously stir or whip until thickened - then refrigerate (refrigeration of body butters is recommended during summer months if your home is not air conditioned).  For an additional fee, we can package your order with a reuseable ice pack to minimize this possibility.
