WHY USE OUR BALANCING TONER? Because our skin is in a constant struggle to maintain a balanced pH. The acid mantle (the protective film that sits on top of the epidermis) has a pH ranging between 4.5 and 5.5 for both skin and hair – slightly acidic. The damage caused by alkaline skin and hair products, sunlight, bad diet and excessive sweating can strip away this protective film and damage the epidermis. The skin is left feeling tight and dry, causing it to try and repair itself by producing excess sebum to compensate for the dryness. This practice overworks our skin, causing it to live in a vicious cycle of being tight and dry and then very oily - constantly looking for balance. It is especially important to apply a good toner and moisturizer if washing with an alkaline cleanser like soap.
As an important part of the oil cleanse routine, our toner (pH = 4) will help to balance the pH of the skin. It is needed to deep clean and tighten pores, eliminate the oily shine from too much sebum production, help prevent breakouts, and rejuvenate the look of tired skin. HOW TO USE OUR BALANCING TONER
Instructions: After cleansing, our toner should be applied all over the face with a cotton ball or pad - being careful not to pull at delicate skin. Pay special attention to T-zone, hairline, behind ears, under jaw, and to acne-prone areas. Avoid open sores. To begin, use toner one to two times a day for 2 days...your face may be happy with the toner as-is. If not, the pH and astringency of our base toner can be changed by adding apple cider vinegar a teaspoon at a time (ACV - organic, with the “mother” intact – such as Bragg’s). A 1:1 ratio of our toner (pH = 4) to ACV (pH = 2.85) has a pH of 3.4. Add more ACV to make more astringent.
